Deciding the Genre

I already thought of doing Mystery and Horror together, but then I was unsure, so I decided to research three genres and decide on what to choose.


SLICE OF LIFE

What is slice of life?
A slice of life focuses on realistic, ordinary experiences such as friendships, family, school relationships, and chasing dreams. 

Films from Slice of life
The Pursuit of Happiness (2006) is a deeply emotional journey about a father who tries to give his son a better life even when everything falls apart. It is also based on a true story.

Another film is Intern (2015). This film is about the 70-year-old Ben, who takes on an internship at a fast-paced fashion startup, where he forms a friendship with the young CEO, Jules. The film explores themes of friendship, purpose and finding balance in life.

ROMANTIC COMEDY

What is romantic comedy?
Romantic comedies focus on love stories with humor, making them light, heartwarming and funny. It’s all about two characters who fall in love in awkward situations and get the charming romance with the laughter and often some good moments.


Films from Romantic Comedy
Legally blonde (2001) It is about a fashionable girl who enrolls at Harvard Law school to win her back her ex-boyfriend, only to discover her own passion and potential for law. It's a fun and empowering story about challenging stereotypes and proving that being true to yourself can lead to success.

Another film is Ticket to Paradise (2022). It is a film about divorced parents, David and Georgia, who travel to Bali to prevent their daughter, Lily , from marrying a man she just met, fearing she's repeating their own decision. The film combines humor with heartfelt moments as the couple confronts their past and their daughter's future.

MYSTERY-HORROR

What is Mystery-Horror?
The Mystery-Horror genre blends elements of both mystery and horror, creating suspenseful stories where characters must uncover hidden truths while facing terrifying supernatural or psychological threats.


Films from Mystery-Horror 
The film Midsommar (2019) Is about a grieving woman who, along with her friends, travels to Sweden to attend a rare midsummer festival, only to uncover disturbing and unsettling rituals. The film blends psychological horror with unsettling visuals, creating a sense of dread in broad daylight.

Another film, Shutter Island (2010), is about U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels as he investigates the disappearance of a patient from a mental institution on a remote island. As he uncovers dark secrets and strange occurrences, he begins to question his own sanity, leading to a mind-bending twist.

Learning Outcome
By learning this, I got to know about different genres and was able to choose which one is easy and good genre that I can do for my final project.
